That Time I Got Ground & #DoggieDaddyProblems

Hi everyone!  Sorry I've been gone so long.  A few weeks ago Daddy was taking me for a walk.  We weren't even a minute into it when I was itchy.  I shook my head to get rid of the itch and my collar fell off.  I didn't notice until Daddy said my name.  His voice sounded funny, kind of like it gets when he panics.  Well, it only took me a few seconds to realize I wasn't on my leash anymore.  I WAS FREE!!!  I looked back at Daddy and happily trotted off to play.  I heard him calling my name but I ignored him.  I'm not a little girl anymore - I can take care of myself!  I ran around looking for squirrels.  They're fun to play with and Daddy doesn't let me chase them too much when he's with me.  A few times I looked over at Daddy.  He was trying to get me to come back by running in the opposite direction, calling my name, screaming the word treat. Are you kidding me?  That's pup stuff!  I'm a big girl! The squirrels got boring so I scampered closer to the house, still avoiding Daddy.  The neighbors were driving their van and I wanted to say hi so I got close to the driver's side door and jumped up and down.  Hello! Hi! How are you!  They weren't interested in me, but they did stop driving.  Hmm, I wonder why?  Then I saw another car and went to play with it. All of a sudden I didn't see or hear Daddy anymore. Oh well, I'm having fun!  Then I heard a loud sound, that unmistakable sound of milk bones in the box! A whole box shaking for me!  Well, I obviously came running around the corner and saw Daddy with the box of Scooby Snacks that he keeps on the fridge.  He was calling my name and dumping the treats all over the ground! Well, I wasn't going to let those treats go to waste!

Wouldn't you know it, as soon as I started eating one I felt his hand on my collar.  Busted.

Daddy was really, really mad.  I don't think I've ever seen him like that.  As soon as Mommy came home he told her what I did and she was disappointed in me.  I avoided Daddy for the rest of the day.  Later Mommy told me that Daddy wasn't upset, he was scared.  She said when I ran off Daddy was scared that I wouldn't come back or something bad would happen to me. She said that Daddy got really worried when I was playing with the cars because he thought I was going to get hit.  That's why he quickly ran inside to get the treats.  He knew I couldn't resist them.

They grounded me for two weeks.  I couldn't go online, play with Mommy's iPad, or use the Wii.  They tried to take away my television privileges as well, but it is right across from my crate so whenever they watch TV I can, too.

Daddy is much better now.  He doesn't take me outside without a harness on.  If he does it's only so I can go pee pee before sleepy.

He also won't take me and Lily for a walk together anymore.  After we do our business we always end up rolling around playing.  I don't know why Daddy gets mad, we're just playing!  He tried to explain to me that it is hard for him to get us back to the house when we're rolling around on the ground and that sometimes it hurts him when we both pull really hard.  I think the breaking point was when one of us slammed into him and took his leg out from under.  Lucky for us he didn't fall down.  That would've been bad. Sometimes when Daddy takes me for a walk by myself Lily cries.  Today Daddy suited me up and then put Lily in her crate.  We went outside and Daddy told me to wait.  Daddy stood by the open window.  We waited until she started crying.  He said, "Lily, quiet," and she stopped crying.  After that I got to go on my walk!

The other day Daddy took out my old harness and tried it on Lily.  He was really happy when it fit because Lily got bigger and is strong. She drags Daddy outside almost as much as I do. I don't mean to be a bad influence, I just want to go outside and explore! I want to smell all the smells and sniff out things that I don't know about! I want to frolic in the fields and roll around in the cool grass.  One time Daddy took Lily outside and as soon as they were out the door Lily saw a squirrel and bolted after it.  Daddy had a red welt on his hand for a few days from the leash.

Today Daddy was on his computer and I wanted to go outside.  He told me I had to wait because he was saving doggies like me.  I couldn't argue with that so I snoozed until he was ready to go.
